by holicek - 12/5/04 2:48 PMI have a iMac with system 10.3.6 installed. Within the last few days I switched from a cable modem to DSL with a SpeedStearm 5100 modem. The modem works fine when it is directly connected to the computer. The problem is that when I connect to D-Link DI604 or D-Link DI-514 wireless I cannot connect to any web sites: "server not found". Both routers worked very well when I had the cable modem. Any thoughts on what I might do or what I did wrong? I double & triple checked the connections and they are secure. Very frustrating! Thanks for any help and suggestions.

Interesting. This could be a MAC address problem in that your DSL service provider will only accept the MAC address of the iMac but NOT of the Router. MAC, in this case, refers to the Media Access Control address of the Ethernet card. Every Ethernet card has one and it is sometimes used to authentic a machine on a network. I came across a similar problem not long ago. On this particular Router, there was an option to "Spoof" the MAC address of the iMac. This fools the DSL ISP into thinking that the iMac is the only thing connected to the line. You might want to run the Router Setup program again and see if that option is available to you. If it is, try it. Hope this helps some

If the Domain Name Servers (Optional) Box is empty, enter the numbers that are in that box on one of the other computers in your network. For example: 4.2.2.1. Microsoft technician gave me that solution when G3 OS 10.1.5 computer suddenly stopped connecting. MS said it was an ISP problem. They first had me try to connect by typing my IP address in the URL line. That worked. Then they had me try www.google.com. That didn't work. Then they had me try to connect using google's IP address. That worked. Since the www/google.com URL didn't connect, the MS tech had me enter the appropriate numbers into the DNS (Optional) box and I was back on line.
We also had difficulties connecting to server with new G5 OS 10.3.6. Ended up purchasing Linksys wired/wireless-2.4 GHz Router. The wired home computers connect well and now the G5 also connects. Applecare could not explain why the G5 would not connect via the wired connection but would connect using wireless.
